Commonwealth TT: Indian teams clinch gold double

Host India clinched a glorious double crown by winning both the men and women team titles in the 21st Commonwealth Table Tennis Championships at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium here today. England settled for silver medal in both the categories.

Indian women team, consisting of Manika Batra, Archana Kamath, Madhurika Patkar, Suthirtha Mukherjee and Ayhika Mukherjee, scripted history by capturing the title for the first time. Manika, Archana and Madhurika won respective singles matches to enable the host nation blank England 3-0 in the final and lift the India Cup in style.

Earlier in the semifinals, India eliminated last eight-times champions Singapore 3-0, while England prevailed over Nigeria by identical margin. Both Singapore and Nigeria contended themselves with bronze medals.
